About Ryan

I was born in Ontario, Canada, 1976. I grew up living overseas and traveling all over the world, being exposed to many different cultures. This started a long journey of discovery. Drawn to martial arts and its weapons as a young child, the ancient arts always called to me.

At age 13 in 1989 I started training European sword and spear in Alabama, then at age 15, started training Shaolin kung fu in Florida, through this system i started to learn bagua and get interested in the internal martial arts.

In 2000, I moved to British Columbia, Canada to attend Traditional Chinese Medicine College. This is where I met my next teacher, Mr. Eric Tuttle, student of Yu Hua Long (Xinyiliuhe Quan), Ma Hong (Chen Taijiquan), among others. My focus was Xinyiliuhe Quan, Chen Taijiquan, and Bagua. Graduating from TCM college in 2004, moving to Whistler/Squamish, BC I started working as a Chinese medicine practitioner and teaching martial arts in Canada and the US.

In 2012, I travelled to China to privately train with Master Yang Hai Ming of Yang Family Xinyiliuhe Quan. Since then I have only trained Yang Family Xinyiliuhe Quan. I have been teaching Yang Family Xinyi for 12 years now and have a small dedicated group of students and kung fu brothers.

In 2020, I created an online platform for people to learn Yang Xinyi. We offer a variety of online programs including Foundation Programs, Monthly Advanced Program, Strength Training Programs, etc.

We also offer In-person training at the centre with regular classes, workshops, one on one live in training, and retreats.

The Three Treasures

The "Three Treasures" are the very root of Chinese Internal Martial Arts, Culture and Medicine. The "Three Treasures" are (Jing) essence, (Qi) breath, and (Shen) Heart / Mind / Spirit. Through training, we can develop and refine the "Three Treasures". By training the (Jing), the muscles, tendons, bones, and skin become powerful and relaxed, by training the (Qi), the breath becomes deep and energizing, by training the (Shen), our mind and intent become sharp and clear. By integrating these practices into our daily lives, we continue to grow stronger, healthier, faster, well into our old age!
